Kerbside Hard Waste Collection
Hard waste refers to large, bulky items that cannot fit in your regular residential waste bin. Each residential property is entitled to one (1) collection per Financial Year, of up to 2 cubic metres of hard waste (about eight wheelie bins in size).
This service is for properties that pay the waste levy fee in their rates and is not available to commercial businesses and vacant land. Some rural areas may also be ineligible.
Tips for Top Kerbside Hard Waste Collection
- Ensure you have not had a collection this Financial Year.
- Before you book your collection, consider if there is a better place for the goods to go.
- Check the items can be collected in the ‘What can be Collected’ section
- Ensure the collection does not exceed 2 cubic metres of hard waste (approximately eight wheelie bins in size).
- Ensure each item does not exceed the maximum length of 2 metres.
- Ensure there is access to the footpath where goods are located
- Make sure items are secured and unable to cause harm

Avoiding Potential Issues
This service is only available to residential properties who have been charged the waste levy fee in their rates, and is not available to commercial businesses or for vacant land. This also means that some rural areas may not be eligible.
We operate two types of trucks for kerbside collection, one for general waste and one for oversized items and white goods. There may be a small delay between the two trucks servicing your property and you may notice oversized items and white goods still awaiting collection after general waste has been removed.
If we cannot access your footpath, properties will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. If building work is being carried out at the property the resident will be required to arrange access through their builder directly. If it is our own Council works being carried out in the area, our departments will communicate internally to ensure both activities can be completed in the scheduled timeframe.
We are hoping people will be courteous to their neighbours, but in the event that someone makes a mess of your kerbside hard waste it will be your own responsibility to tidy up. To avoid potential complaints raised against you, it is also your responsibility to ensure items are secured when presenting them on the kerbside, and that items will not be unsafe or cause injury.
If someone leaves their hard waste on your footpath, to avoid potential disruption to your own collection you will need to advise us in advance of your hard waste collection and the matter will be investigated as an act of illegal dumping. For more information on how to make a report to us, visit our Illegal Dumping page.
