Townsville Parking Expansion

Goal1. A city that connects you to what you need at the time you choose.
Strategic PurposeThe expansion of paid parking across Townsville will improve the turnover of parking bays, increase visitor numbers, and inject more money into the local economy. This project will enhance liveability and improve the level of amenities to match our growing population.

Townsville City Council is installing around 95 solar-powered parking meters across the city to improve the turnover of parking bays and improve the level of amenities as our population grows.

Paid parking will encourage a steady turnover of traffic, making it easier for visitors and customers to find parking spots and help increase foot traffic and sales for local businesses in these areas.

The parking meters will be installed at:

  • The Strand (from the Rockpool to Anzac Park)
  • Gregory Street (from Eyre Street to The Strand)
  • Mitchell Street (from Leichhardt Street to Kennedy Street)
  • Palmer Street (from Dean Street to Archer Street)
  • Fulham Road (from Hugh Street to Kings Road including adjacent residential streets surrounding the medical precinct).

The new parking meters are planned to be operational in early 2025.

More information will become available as the project progresses.
