How to Get Active
Enjoy our outdoor facilities and learn about our active events and programs.
Events and Programs
Annual Come and Try Calendar
Kick off each year by attending one or more free come and try sessions throughout January and February. We have created a calendar filled with sport, recreation, health and fitness opportunities in Townsville.
Interested organisations, please email sport@townsville.qld.gov.au to be added to the event invite stakeholder database.
Get Active Expo
Held annually, the Get Active Expo involves over 100 sport, recreational, health and fitness organisations. The best thing is that they are all together at the same place, at the same time.
Find out about active and healthy opportunities in Townsville, sign on to a new sports club, take advantage of special event deals, and have a go at a wide range of activities and sessions in the Active Demonstration or Active Zone areas. There is something for everyone.
Keep an eye on this page for exhibitor registration details, or email sport@townsville.qld.gov.au to be added to the event invite stakeholder database.
Heart Foundation Walking
Did you know Townsville City Council is a host organisation for Australia’s largest free community-based walking network? Heart Foundation Walking makes regular physical activity enjoyable and easy. The walking groups come in many different sizes and various times, distances, days and levels of difficulty. If you do not live near a group or prefer to walk on your own, you can join as a ‘Virtual Walker’ and track your progress.
To register as a walker and check where Townsville walks are, visit the Heart Foundation website and search by postcode.
Seniors Staying Active
Are you an older resident wanting to stay active and healthy? Check out the physically active guide for the senior community:

Outdoor Facilities List
Council has a range of outdoor facilities available such as exercise equipment, skateboarding, basketball, hopscotch and BMX in numerous locations. The facilities are for all members of the community to share and utilise in a safe and responsible way.
Remember: it only takes 6 minutes to burn so make sure you are prepared before you go out in the sun!
