Project Background

Townsville City Council is preparing to upgrade the paved pathway alongside Northward Shopping Village and the northern stretch of Gregory Street between Warburton and Mitchell Streets.

Upgrades will include replacing the old pavers with full-width concrete, which will improve accessibility and reduce maintenance costs in Northward's shopping and dining precinct.

During the design phase of this project, Council consulted with key Gregory Street stakeholders, including local businesses, property owners, residents, and State Government departments.

Project Overview

As part of this project, Council will:

  • replace sections of existing paved pathways with two-tone exposed aggregate and full-width coloured concrete with concrete banding
  • replace sections of existing kerb and channel to improve stormwater drainage
  • replace associated water mains along Gregory and Eyre Streets
  • reconstruct associated driveway crossovers as identified.

Council also intends to replace the flooring and stormwater grates of outdoor eating areas for Tide and Vitti Cafes and remove two palm trees by Axell Rose Boutique at the corner of Gregory and Mitchell Streets. Council will continue to update the community as the construction of this project progresses.
