Welcoming Cities

Townsville City Council has become the 40th Council and the 5th Queensland Council to join the Welcoming Cities network. This commitment is aligned with achieving one of six key initiatives outlined in the Townsville City Deal for an ‘Innovated and Connected City’.

Welcoming Cities is a national initiative that supports Local Governments to achieve their social cohesion objectives. A network of Councils and other organisations with an interest in social cohesion is being created to share knowledge, create partnerships and celebrate success. Welcoming Cities membership has doubled in the past 12 months and the network is now representative in one-quarter of the Australian population.

Council will be working towards achieving the Welcoming Cities Standard and will champion the principles of welcoming and inclusion in our local community.

Townsville City Council is now a Committed Welcoming City and will work to achieve further accreditations through the network.
