Residents reminded to not return home before receiving advice

The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) is reminding residents of the black zone to not return to their homes until they are advised to do so.
The black zone includes parts of Cluden, Hermit Park, Idalia, Oonoonba, Railway Estate and Rosslea.
TLDMG chair Andrew Robinson said it was essential for residents who had evacuated to not return to their homes until advised to do so.
“The Ross River has not reached its peak. Flooding is expected. If you live in the black zone, do not return home until you are advised to do so,” Cr Robinson said.
“There has been a good response to our call to evacuate. Most residents have listened to warnings and evacuated to friends and families homes or to evacuation centres.
“If you have not yet evacuated and feel it is safe to do so, please leave now. All residents in the Townsville LGA should remain prepared to leave if conditions worsen.
“The community has been very generous with their donations to our evacuation centres. Evacuation centres are no longer accepting donations, including food.
“We’d ask our good Samaritans to consider donations to friends, family and community members in their area who may need help, or visit www.givit.org.au/queensland-storms-and-flooding for more information.”
