Jabiru Park receives boulder treatment

A Condon park which has fallen victim to acts of vandalism in recent years is receiving Council’s boulder protection treatment, with works beginning this week.
Divisional Councillor, Kristian Price said he welcomed the $310,000 investment to roll out the boulder protection program at the popular park.
“It’s no secret Jabiru Park has fallen victim to senseless acts of vandalism over the last few years, especially involving stolen cars, so it will be terrific to see Council installing these boulders to increase community safety,” Cr Price said.
“With a perimeter of roughly 550 metres, the installation of about 300 boulders is expected to take 3 weeks to complete.
“Council’s highly skilled crew will be conducting the works which will involve heavy machinery, dust and noise so we thank the community for their patience and understanding.”
Councillor Price said Council was doing what it could to try to stop anti-social behaviour in and around community spaces.
“Council has been investing in preventative initiatives throughout the city including updating toilet blocks with cisterns and plumbing embedded in the walls, improving our CCTV network, better lighting, our continued community patrols and the installation of more boulders around our parks,” he said.
“In the 2023/24 Budget, Council announced $14.9 million in community safety measures to try and get on the front foot and give residents the confidence to safely use our public spaces and I’m very pleased to see Jabiru Park undergo this treatment.”
