Update your info and up your chances of re-kindling with your furry friend

Council is urging Townsville pet owners to make sure their personal information is up to date for their pets to avoid having a ruff time if their animal goes missing.
Councillor Brodie Phillips said Council’s Animal Care and Adoption Centre had found it increasingly harder to reunite missing pets with their owners due to outdated information.
“A pet is a friend for life, so it’s crucial people are keeping their information up to date so we can reunite them with their fur-ever friend if they end up at Council’s Animal Care and Adoption Centre,” Cr Phillips said.
“When you move houses, you make sure your mail is redirected, just like that - it’s important people think about their four-legged friends.
“Taking this simple step will help give you and your family peace of mind knowing that if the worst happens, you’ll be reunited as quickly and easily as possible with your beloved pet.”
Cr Phillips said ahead of annual pet registrations in the coming months, now is the time to make sure the personal information linked to your pet is correct, such as microchip number, your address, phone number and email address.
“Being a responsible pet owner is more than just making sure your animal is fed, watered and exercised, it’s important to make sure your dogs and cats are microchipped, registered, vaccinated and your information is always up to date in case they go missing,” he said.
“In the twelve months from June 2023 - June 2024, Council was able to reunite 952 pets with their owners, and by ensuring your details are up to date you can give your pet the best chance of getting home safe to your family.
“So, make sure you’re being a responsible pet owner, hop online and update your info today.”
