School holiday guide’s a boredom buster

With school holidays just weeks away, Council is keeping boredom at bay, releasing the June-July School Holiday Guide this week.
Townsville’s Acting Mayor, Paul Jacob said the 32-page publication was jam-packed with exciting activities for all ages and abilities.
“Council’s school holiday guide is available online and in print now, with plenty on offer to keep Townsville kids entertained,” Cr Jacob said.
“As always, the guide is chock full of low or no cost activities from local businesses, organisations and youth groups, featuring something for everyone these school holidays.
“Council has some terrific free activities like Messy Play in the Park, Bird Chats at the Queens Garden’s Aviary with Hands on Wildlife, or Screen Free STEM and Drop in and build sessions at our Citylibraries, to name a few.
“This popular one-stop-shop reference for kids, parents and caregivers features 49 activities tailored for children and young adults up to 17 years of age.”
Ranger Jackie from Hands on Wildlife said the school holiday guide was a great resource to keep the kids busy over the coming weeks.
“Hands on Wildlife will be down at the Percival Pacific Andrews Aviary at Queens Gardens throughout the holidays, so we really encourage people to head on down from 9.30 - 10am on Tuesdays and Thursday to learn more about our feathered friends,” she said.
“Our mission at Hands on Wildlife is to inspire wildlife conservation by bringing people and animals closer than ever before. It’s the best time of the year to get out and about in Townsville, so if you’re looking to escape the sun, head on down to our Queens Gardens and come have a squiz.
“We love educating the community on Australia’s native animals at the amazing aviary, it’s always fun to share some insights on our resident birds and there might even be a surprise animal or two that join us down there.”
Acting Mayor Jacob said the June – July School Holiday Guide was home to a diverse list of activities and was confident there is something in there for everyone.
“As a city, Townsville is growing, and as a Council we want to promote an inclusive and active community, so I’m thrilled our team have produced a Guide like this to help all families make the most of the holidays,” Cr Jacob said.
“The Guide also has symbols beside each activity telling you if it’s suited to early-childhood, primary, youth or all ages.”
Printed copies of the School Holiday Guide are available at Citylibraries at Aitkenvale, Riverway and Flinders Street. Copies are also available at the Visitor Information Centre in Flinders Square, the Community Information Centre in Flinders Street and at Council SERVE Customer Service located at 103 Walker Street.
