Grants, partnerships approved for Townsville community groups

Council is proudly supporting a number of community groups through its Community Grants and Partnerships program, with six applications being passed at this week’s Ordinary Council meeting.

Townsville NAIDOC Committee has been awarded $40,316.97 in grant funding, plus an additional $2,036.36 in venue fee waivers and $4,967.84 in hard costs waivers for its 2024 Townsville NAIDOC Week Events at Riverway, Thuringowa and The Strand from 7 - 14 July.

The Cungulla Men’s Shed has been awarded a $3,551.82 grant with a further $48.18 fee waiver for its Cungulla Market Show n Shine event on Sunday 30 June 2024.

Volunteering North Queensland has been approved for a three-year Council Community Organisation Partnership grant worth $50,000 per annum, supporting the roll out of its capacity building, Volunteer Tool Kit for community organisations.

Townsville Rockwheelers Mountain Bike Club has been approved for a three-year Council partnership worth $20,269.52 per year for the annual Paluma Push event held each July.

Townsville Concert Bands Series will be supported by a three-year partnership with Council worth $5,000 per annum, covering the operational costs, conductor fees and marketing of its events.

The Jaguar Car Club of North Queensland has been awarded three years of Council partnership funding for its “All British Day”, with $3,709 in funding and $477.48 in venue waivers for this year, followed by $4,500 of funding for the following two years.

Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said Council was proud to throw its support behind these valuable community events and initiatives.

“Townsville is perfectly poised as the events capital of Northern Australia and it’s great to see so many homegrown events adding to the mix for our city to enjoy,” Cr Greaney said.

“We’re also proud to continue a partnership approach with Volunteering North Queensland’s Volunteer Tool Kit roll-out, which will help build volunteer capacity that is so vital to community organisations throughout our region.”
