Celebrate Percivals launch with free street party

Celebrate the launch of one of Australia’s biggest art prizes at the official Percivals Street Party outside Perc Tucker Regional Gallery on Saturday.
The free event will feature a licenced area and food offerings, live music and roving performers ahead of the announcement of the winners of this year’s The Percivals prizes.
The Percivals includes three categories – the Percival Portrait Painting Prize, the Percival Animal Portrait Prize and the Percival Photographic Portrait Prize – and includes more than $50,000 worth of prizes.
Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said anticipation was ramping up ahead of the prizes being awarded.
“The Percivals is at the pinnacle of Australian art excellence. This biennial event attracts hundreds of entries from across the country and overseas each year and is narrowed down to a selection of extraordinary works for The Percivals exhibition,” Cr Greaney said.
“Council is incredibly proud to run The Percivals as part of our Townsville City Galleries exhibitions. It’s fitting that we hold this important exhibition inside North Queensland’s oldest art gallery, shining a light on just how important art is to Townsville residents and visitors to our region.”
Cr Greaney said the Percivals Street Party was a great way for art fans to get involved in the excitement.
“The Percivals Street Party is the place to be from 6:30pm on Saturday night. There will be a licenced area, food, music and performers to enjoy at the doorstep of our beautiful Perc Tucker Regional Gallery,” she said.
“The announcement of winners will happen at 7pm, with the party to continue afterwards. This is a great free event for art lovers to bring a few friends to, so you can make the most of our beautiful weather and celebrate one of the country’s most significant art prizes.”
Access to Perc Tucker Regional Gallery and the Percivals Street Party will be on a first come first served basis. No bookings are required.
The official launch of The Percivals and the Percivals Street Party will start at 6:30pm. Speeches and the announcement of winners will start at 7pm.
The Percivals exhibition runs from Saturday 22 June to Sunday 1 September 2024 at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery on Flinders Street at Townsville City.
