One of the biggest social events on the calendar for Townsville seniors is back in 2024, with the Seniors Luncheon just around the corner.
Mayor Troy Thompson said the popular free event was open to Townsville residents aged 65 and over and would see them enjoy a catered sit-down lunch and live entertainment from Townsville’s finest local talent.
“For many Townsville residents, this annual Council initiative is the biggest social event on the calendar, and it is a a great way for the city to pay tribute to the senior community,” Cr Thompson said.
“This year we want to see those attending dress up in their freshest florals and summer attire as we enjoy the beauty of nature together with a garden party theme.
“Our city is home to so many wonderful seniors who have contributed great things for our community, so Council’s annual luncheon is one way we can thank them for their outstanding contributions.
“There’s always a great free lunch and a lineup of some of Townsville’s best live entertainment, however registrations to this popular free event fill quickly, so it’s crucial people get in quick.
“Council even offers luncheon attendees free transport from their residences through service providers TransitCare, Comlink and Townsville Taxis, however this must be arranged at the time of booking a ticket to the luncheon through the TicketShop.”
The free luncheon at Townsville Stadium runs on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 August 2024, bookings are essential and open now through TicketShop until 12 August 2024 unless tickets are exhausted prior – please call 07 4727 9797 to book.
Seniors can also look forward to the 2024 Seniors Lifestyle Expo on Tuesday 20 August that week, also taking place at Townsville Stadium.
Running from 9am until midday, the expo is a valuable chance for seniors in Townsville to learn about what the city has to offer them.
“There are so many reasons to head down to the Seniors Lifestyle Expo, whether you’re looking for information on aged care or retirement living, need some advice about health care or financial services, or you just want to find out how you can tap into the city’s social scene,” Cr Thompson said.
“There’s a variety of exhibitors who will be able to provide information that will help make life as a senior Townsville local easier, safer and more fun.”
