Calling all green thumbs, tree lovers, and environmental enthusiasts! Council invites you to join the excitement of National Tree Day 2024, Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event, happening this Sunday.

Mayor Troy Thompson said this year Council is rallying the community to roll up their sleeves and plant native trees at Melrose Park in Garbutt.

“Community participation in habitat conservation through our annual event is a fantastic opportunity for locals to actively contribute to our region’s environmental well-being,” Councillor Thompson said.

“The event will feature educational displays, alongside complimentary refreshments, and a free native plant for each participant to take home.”

Councillor Thompson highlighted the lasting impact of these events and said, “They foster community bonds and offer locals the opportunity to witness the growth of our city’s greenery, enhancing our biodiversity year after year.”

“The community planting event will run from 8:30am to 10am on Sunday 28 July 2024 at Melrose Park, Garbutt. Please gather at the Townsville Warriors Football Club located off Chandler Street.”
