Townsville City Council services impacted by Tropical Cyclone Kirrily

Based on current advice from the Bureau of Meteorology, the Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) wishes to advise residents all Townsville City Council services, facilities and venues will cease normal operations during Thursday 25 January and Friday 26 January.
Residents are advised these closures will impact bin collections scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday 25 January) and Friday (26 January).
Council will endeavour to resume bin collection over the weekend, pending advice from the TLDMG.
TLDMG Chair Mayor Jenny Hill urges residents to ensure their bins are safely secured and not left on the kerbside where they could become a danger to the community, especially in high winds.
Other Council services impacted include:
- All waste and transfer stations (Re-opening to be assessed)
- All Citylibraries branches
- All Townsville City Galleries
- Council’s Customer Service Centre at 143 Walker Street
- All Pools (Tobruk, Kokoda, Long Tan, Riverway Lagoons, Rockpool, Northern Beaches Leisure Centre)
- All beaches
- Paluma campground (bookings cancelled and refunded)
- Castle Hill Road will be closed to traffic from 8pm Wednesday 24 January
- Community Centres are currently closed until Wednesday 31 January
- Townsville Stadium closed until Monday 29 January
- Riverway Stadium closed until Monday 29 January.
Townsville City Council will endeavour to resume normal services once it is safe to do so.
