TLDMG urges community to escape the heat

The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) has urged residents to use one of the available airconditioned public spaces to escape today’s heatwave conditions.
It’s as the region is experiencing another day of severe heat, with Bureau of Meteorology predicting the heatwave to last until Thursday.
TLDMG Chair Jenny Hill has encouraged those residents still without power because of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily to use one of Townsville City Council’s community spaces.
“There’s still more than 1500 customers without electricity and I know Ergon is working as hard as it can to get them online as quickly as possible,” Chair Hill said.
“With the heatwave conditions continuing today I am encouraging those residents to go to areas like the Riverway and Flinders Street libraries.
“The libraries are free, have air conditioning, access to power points to charge phones and power banks, computers, activities to keep the kids entertained and more.
“All of the pools are open, and The Strand water park is back in operation again.
“Heatwaves can be deadly, and I am urging anyone wanting to escape the heat, particularly those residents still without power, to use Council’s public spaces.”
