Sonic kicks off Riverway Movie Nights for 2024
Date published: 17 January 2024
Riverway Movie Nights returns in 2024 with a screening of one of the biggest video game film adaptations, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
The free movie night is held on the third Friday of each month and returns this Friday from 7pm.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 follows on from the first movie as Sonic and his new friend Tails are all that stand in the way of the maniac Dr Robotnik who returns to earth with new ally Knuckles the Echidna.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said families can bring their own popcorn and treats or get a bite to eat from the food truck before enjoying the open-air cinema.
“It’s a relaxed movie night where you can enjoy time with family or friends under the stars to kick off the weekend,” Cr Greaney said.
“Council is pleased to present this free event, which is always well supported by young people in Townsville.
“Because it is an open-air cinema the event is dependent on the weather, and I encourage everyone to keep an eye on Council’s social media pages to check if it is still on.
“The event is open to everyone of all ages and all abilities with easy access to the oval and accessible toilets nearby.”
While at Riverway, Council invites everyone to explore the popular walking loop around the Ross River, check out what Citylibraries Riverway is offering and immerse themselves in the artwork at Pinnacles Gallery.
Riverway Movie Nights is one of several Council-run events and initiatives for the city’s youth to provide them with an opportunity to connect with the wider community.
