Council has called out those responsible for causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to facilities at a popular park.
The toilet block at Mount View Park was left unusable after vandals destroyed the toilets and lit a fire inside the structure.
Council has closed the amenities while it carries out repairs as quickly as possible to make it safe for users.
A Council spokesperson said it was disappointing the actions of a few have left the amenities unusable for park users.
“The park is one of several which have been senselessly targeted over the last few months,” they said.
“Amenities at Robertson Park, Freemason Park, Loam Island, Western Lions Park and in Kirwan have been subjected to vandalism recently.
“The repairs continue to cost Council and ratepayers tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
“Parks like Mount View are popular with families as it is a space to get out of the house, enjoy the outdoors and spend time with loved ones.
“Our parks are meant to be enjoyed and be a fun and safe place for people to enjoy.
“Council will now need to fix the damage. Antisocial behaviour like this is not OK.”
Anyone with information about the vandalism is being urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
