Residents urged to conserve water

The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) has urged the community to conserve water due to the extensive power outages across the city.
The outages have impacted power supply to four reservoirs and 18 water sites across Townsville.
TLDMG Chair Jenny Hill said the community is being urged to conserve water as a precaution while Council works with Ergon to get the water supply network back online.
“More than half the city was impacted by the power outages from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily and that includes our water infrastructure,” Cr Hill said.
“Our teams are out now assessing the damage and getting the sites back online as quickly as they can.
“We are unsure of the extent of the issue at the moment and as a precaution we are asking the community to conserve water where they can.
“Check around your home for leaks, reuse water where you can, avoid washing down debris and take short showers.
“We will continue to the keep the community informed as we look to fix power supply to our water infrastructure as soon as possible.”
