Boil water alert lifted on Magnetic Island
Date published: 30 January 2024
The Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) has advised Magnetic Island residents that they no longer have to boil their water.
It is following successful repairs to the roof the Picnic Bay reservoir which was damaged last week.
TLDMG Chair Jenny Hill thanked Magnetic Island residents for their understanding and listening to the advice.
“We don’t take decisions like putting out a boil water alert lightly and we understand the inconvenience it caused Magnetic Island residents,” Cr Hill said.
“Townsville City Council has worked hard to restore safe drinking water to the community.
“The water is now considered safe for all typical uses including drinking, preparing food and drinks, personal washing, dishwashing, cleaning clothes and flushing toilets.
“Residents will need to run their taps and sprinklers for 15 minutes before consuming the water.
“The precautionary measure was taken after the reservoir was damaged.
“Council was able to repair the structure yesterday and we have got the all-clear from the regulators that the water is safe to drink.”
