Council wants community voices heard on skate park upgrade
Date published: 27 September 2023
Council is upgrading Murray Skate Park and wants to hear from the Townsville community about what they think would improve this facility.
As part of Council’s Have Your Say platform, Council is calling on the public to provide their feedback during the online consultation period from Monday 25 September to Friday 20 October 2023 by going to Have Your Say Townsville.
Council will also hold an in-person consultation at Murray Skate Park on Saturday 14 October 2023 from 10am – 1pm where you can meet with the Council team to share ideas for this popular facility.
Council Infrastructure Services Committee chairperson Kurt Rehbein said he looked forward to working with the local skateboarding community to get the best possible outcome for everyone.
“Murray Skate Park is hugely popular with young people and the skateboarding community in Townsville so we want to hear what they have to say and what they want to see at this facility,” Cr Rehbein said.
“This facility already caters for skaters, in-liners and BMX riders of beginner, intermediate and advanced levels but we want to make Murray Skate Park even better.
“As our city continues to grow, we need to ensure we are building more community infrastructure and improving the infrastructure we already have.
“Skateboarding debuted as an Olympic sport at the Tokyo Olympics and we’d love to help foster a future local Olympian with these upgrades.”
Council is committed to creating an engaged community that enables every resident to have a sense of belonging and these Have Your Say consultations play a big part in helping us achieve that.
