Mayor’s Christmas Appeal launches for 2023
Date published: 13 October 2023
Townsville residents experiencing financial hardship during the Christmas period due to domestic and family violence will receive a helping hand from the community with this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.
The appeal will this year shed light on family violence, selecting a number of community organisations as beneficiaries of funds raised through the appeal to provide some relief to people who have experienced DFV this year.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said expressions of interest were now open for community organisations across the city.
“I’d like to extend an invitation to community organisations in Townsville to complete an expression of interest so we can appropriately distribute funds raised through this year’s appeal,” Cr Hill said.
“Family violence is a serious concern right across Australia, and it’s no different in our own backyard. This year we are focusing on people who have experienced family violence.
“It’s my sincere hope that the support we can offer helps to alleviate some of the financial stress caused by domestic and family violence this festive season.
“Donations are now open, so if you can spare some cash in the lead up to Christmas please visit Council’s website to donate. Every dollar can make a difference in the life of a local who has experienced family violence.”
The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal also includes a Gala Cocktail Party, with drinks, canapes, grazing and dessert tables, live entertainment, auctions and a raffle. Council is pleased to have BMD Group on board as platinum sponsor of this year’s Gala Cocktail Party.
BMD Constructions Regional Construction Manager Daniel Hussey said BMD was proud to be involved in the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.
“As Australia’s largest privately owned civil contractor, we take a relationship-focused approach to all that we do and we have long-standing relationships across our communities as a result of this philosophy,” Mr Hussey said.
“With family being one of our values, we are extremely honoured to be able to extend our support to those who need it most – particularly in the lead up to the festive season, which is a time for all communities to come together and lend a hand.”
