Junior artists recognised at awards night

Senior high school students from across the North Queensland region have had their art recognised as part of this year’s Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art.
The state-wide awards was shown at eight galleries across Queensland to showcase the sophistication, diversity and high standard of visual art execution in Queensland secondary schools.
This year’s awards was opened on Friday (6 October 2023) night at Pinnacles Gallery by Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill.
Cr Hill said the exhibition reflected the high level of arts practice in the North Queensland region.
“Council is proud to be working with the Queensland Government to showcase the Creative Generation Excellence Awards at Pinnacles Gallery,” she said.
“These awards show just how talented our up-and-coming artists are, from the intricate ceramics works on show through to multimedia pieces, paintings, wearable art, and more.
“As a Council we’re proud to provide Pinnacles Gallery for this exhibition as we continue to work with local artists to provide exhibition platforms to showcase works.
“Congratulations to all of the selected artists. Your commitment to your artistic practice is clear and you should all be very proud of being exhibited in this national-level gallery which has housed works from artists like Patricia Piccinini, Shaun Tan, and Ben Quilty.”
The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art 2023 will exhibit at Pinnacles Gallery from today until Sunday 22 October 2023.
Pinnacles Gallery is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm on Saturdays and 9am to 1pm on Sundays. Bookings are not required, and entry is free.
