Backyard bird count takes flight in Townsville
Date published: 19 October 2023
Cast your eyes to the skies to help Townsville City Council, Birdlife Townsville and Birdlife Australia see how many avian neighbours you have in this year’s Aussie Bird Count.
Mayor Jenny Hill said the Aussie Bird Count runs to Sunday 22 October 2023 right across the country.
“As a Council we are pleased to support our community in protecting and enjoying our natural environment through initiatives like the Aussie Bird Count,” Cr Hill said.
“To take part in the count, just spend 20 minutes in your backyard, local park, schoolyard, or other favourite outdoor space. Use the Aussie Bird Count app or the form on our website to record the types of birds you see, and how many there are.
“If you’re not sure what kind of bird you’re looking at, check out the field guide’s bird finder to help identify the bird.
“You’re able to submit as many counts as you like and to participate by yourself or in a group.
“After submitting your bird count information through the app or website, your findings will be added to information from thousands of other Australians, feeding the live statistics on the number of birds and species right across the country.”
