Council’s ACAC now open seven days a week

Townsville’s Animal Care and Adoption Centre (ACAC) is trialling Sunday trading to give residents more of an opportunity to become paw-rents.
The ACAC will be open seven days a week until 29 January 2024.
Community Health, Safety and Environmental Sustainability Committee chairperson Maurie Soars said it was to help those people interested in adopting a pet.
“A lot of residents are busy during the week with work and commitments and only have a limited window to come out to the ACAC when looking for their next pet,” Cr Soars said.
“By moving to seven day a week trading we hope it will give people more time to look at adopting one of the animals we have at the centre.
“Our team members will be available to answer any questions and help anyone who is looking to adopt a pet.”
Cr Soars said Council had several animals waiting to be taken to their fur-ever home.
“We have cats, dogs and even a pigeon looking to find their new family and their new home,” he said.
“All our animals are ready to settle into loving homes and I encourage residents to go to our website and see what animals are available for adoption.
“From there you can book a time to come and meet them on any day of the week.”
