Date published: 29 March 2023
There’s plenty to keep Townsville kids entertained over the Easter school holidays in one of Australia’s most liveable cities.
Townsville City Council’s latest school holiday guide provides 41 activities tailored for children up to 17 years of age, with a wide-ranging list that suits all tastes.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said local businesses, organisations and youth groups were invited to submit their activities for Council’s school holiday guide, and the response has been fantastic.
“The Guide includes 20 free and 21 low-cost activities, so there’s a lot to choose from if you’re on a tight budget,” Cr Greaney said.
“Townsville is a growing city that promotes an inclusive and active community, so I’m thrilled we can produce a Guide like this to help all families make the most of the holidays. ”
Available online and in print, the Easter School Holiday Guide is a one-stop-shop reference for kids, parents and caregivers.
Amongst the offerings in Council’s Holiday Guide are an Easter Treasure Trail, Aviary Antics at the Botanical Gardens, pottery classes, a ninja gym, comic book making and kitchen chemistry.
“I am bowled over by the variety of activities and, regardless of a young person’s tastes, there is something for everyone,” Cr Greaney said.
“The Guide takes the guesswork out of choosing an activity, with symbols beside each activity telling you if it’s suited to early-childhood, primary, youth or all ages.
“Some of the events are one-offs while others are held on multiple dates, so check the Guide to avoid disappointment. Due to their popularity, many of the activities also require a booking.”
In addition to activities offered by other organisations, the Easter School Holiday Guide also includes the online City Libraries Curious Kids program that encourages curiosity, discovery and creativity in young people.
Printed copies of Council’s Easter School Holiday Guide are available at City Libraries at Aitkenvale and Flinders Street. Copies are also available at the Visitor Information Centre in Flinders Square, the Community Information Centre in Flinders Street and at Council Customer Service currently located at 143 Walker Street.
Families can also download the School Holiday Guide from Council's website.
