Beat the holiday boredom with Council’s Aviary Antics event
Date published: 31 March 2023
Townsville City Council is again partnering with Hands on Wildlife for a fun morning of animal discovery with Aviary Antics on Saturday 1 April 2023.
This free event will be held at Council’s Percival Andrews Bird Aviary in Queens Gardens from 9-11am. Families can come and meet the feathery friends who call the aviary home.
Hands on Wildlife runs the aviary for Council, and they will bring along some extra special guests for the event including lizards, pythons and a squirrel glider.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said that the first event was a big success last year so this one will again coincide with school holidays.
“Hands on Wildlife were recently awarded the tender at the Percival Andrews Bird Aviary for a further three years. They do a fantastic job taking care of the birds and interacting with the public,” Cr Greaney said.
“Aviary Antics is a great chance for local children to beat the school holiday boredom while learning more about native wildlife.
“This free event will also have the Feel Good Foodie Food Van onsite providing refreshments and food, and there will be free face painting too.
“Townsville is a sustainable destination that embraces and participates in the arts, sports, events and recreational activities and this is another great free event for locals to enjoy.”
