Red hot line-up of events for Townsville’s dry season

The North Australia Festival of Arts (NAFA), Strand Ephemera, the Australian Festival of Chamber Music and the NTI Townsville 500 highlight a bumper schedule of Council-supported events in Townsville over July and August.
All of the excitement of NAFA runs through until Sunday, 9 July, while Council’s hugely-popular biennial sculpture festival Strand Ephemera is on from 22 July until 6 August.
The world renowned Australian Festival of Chamber Music runs across various Townsville locations from 28 July to 6 August and Supercars spectacle the NTI Townsville 500 takes over the city from 7-9 July.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney was delighted to see this incredible line-up of upcoming events for Townsville.
“Townsville is again proving itself as the events capital of the North with something for everyone to enjoy coming up over the next few months,” Cr Greaney said.
“Council is committed to showcasing the city as a sustainable destination that embraces and participates in the arts, sports, events and recreational activities.”
The city will host dozens of other upcoming exciting arts and musical events, including Brass on the Grass (15 July), Brown Brothers Wine, Food and Comedy Festival (15 and 16 July), Human Nature at the Townsville Entertainment Centre (4 August) and the Soweto Gospel Choir (29 August).
July and August are shaping up as a sports lover’s dream in Townsville with the NTI Townsville 500 and the North Queensland Cowboys games at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on 1 July (Tigers), 22 July (Eels), 5 August (Broncos) and 17 August (Sharks).
Townsville will also host the McDonald’s Townsville Running Festival from 5-6 August and the Townsville Triathlon and Multisport Festival from 18-20 August.
