A staggering $46.6 million worth of tenders were awarded by Townsville City Council last month, with a further estimated $68 million worth of tenders released during the same time period.
Council is focused on procurement practices that encourage business innovation and circular economy principles.
Business Services and Finance Committee chairperson Cr Margie Ryder said Council was taking the right step towards its goal of growing Townsville into a city that advances business through its tenders.
“In December alone we awarded more than $46 million worth of tenders, which provides significant economic opportunities for local businesses across the region,” Cr Ryder said.
“Tenders have been awarded to establish a panel of security services suppliers, maintenance services suppliers for overgrown and accumulated materials on properties, and the provision of public open space maintenance services.”
Cr Ryder said Council released a further nine tenders last month, with the estimated total tender amount coming in at $68 million.
“Council is focusing on engaging local Townsville businesses for tenders, as we have committed to having 90 per cent of procurement spend with local businesses in the next five years,” she said.
“We are furthering our investment in the region’s future and I’m looking forward to seeing the next round of tenders awarded.”
