Townsville City Council is supporting a community services organisation with the awarding of a peppercorn lease at today’s Ordinary Council meeting.
Community Gro will move into a new site at Harold Phillips Park at Garbutt, with a lease term of five years.
Mayor Jenny Hill said Council was proud to support Community Gro as it worked to bolster Townsville locals.
“Organisations like Community Gro help make our city stronger and more connected, which is why I’m pleased that Council has voted to go forward with a five year lease for the organisation at Harold Phillips Park,” Cr Hill said.
“The peppercorn lease for the Harold Phillips Park facility will be set at $1 per year, payable if and when requested, making it possible for Community Gro to move into its new premises.
“Council is focused on growing Townsville into a sustainable destination that embraces recreational activities, and supporting Community Gro and their support groups, social groups, and youth work. This sets us on the right path.”
Council supports community groups, sporting clubs, theatre groups, scout groups and swimming pools with up to $4.5 million in lease value annually.
