Council supporting local arts through grants

Seven new local arts projects will be brought to life in Townsville thanks to Regional Art Development Fund (RADF) grants approved at last week’s Townsville City Council meeting.
Council partners with Arts Queensland to deliver the grants, which support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
Council Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the seven approved applicants would produce initiatives beneficial to the local arts scene and its practitioners.
“RADF grants are all about giving local artists the opportunity to pursue their art in their hometown,” Cr Greaney said.
“This is the first round of the 2022/2023 RADF, and we are proud to be supporting these seven approved applicants with a total of $50,214.06 worth of funding.
“These initiatives will be brought to the Townsville public in the next few months and I can’t wait to see these ideas come to life.”
The successful applicants include Laura Shum for the redevelopment of The 7 Deadly Sins for NAFA 2023, the North Queensland Queer Society for Queer Candy Music Festival, Isabelle Reynaud to help run professional development sessions from leading interstate artists in Townsville and the Townsville Citizens Band for Best of Brass (BoB) Festival in 2023.
The other successful applicants were Madonna Davies for edu-tainment show Recycling Rocks, Jordan Galliott for her research and development dance project Saint, But More and Baylee Griffin to help discover and develop Australian-sourced glazes through a contemporary ceramics lens.
Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said as part of this successful long-term collaboration, the Queensland Government will provide $2.13 million for RADF 2022–2023 to a total of 59 local councils.
Applications for Round 2 RADF grants opened on 29 January 2023 and close on Sunday, 26 February 2023.
Council conducted an information session at 9:30am on Saturday, 28 January 2023 at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery to help guide applicants through the process and answer any questions they had.
