Plenty of pothole work for Council crews following rain event

Townsville City Council has been quick to react with its construction and maintenance teams hard at work repairing potholes and clearing blocked drains after recent weather events in the city.
Since the period of heavy rain commenced on 13 January 2023, Council has identified and repaired 187 potholes, including 67 that were brought to Council’s attention by members of the community.
Townsville Mayor and Townsville Local Disaster Management Group (TLDMG) chair Jenny Hill said Council has increased their crews dedicated to potholes to help keep the community safe on the road.
“After the damage caused by the heavy rain conditions we increased the crews that were working on potholes from our regular one to five dedicated crews,” Cr Hill said.
“We had great support from our community in reporting potholes and our teams worked diligently to repair them right around the city.”
Council teams were also kept busy with drain clearing works in recent weeks, with 23 known higher risk areas inspected before and after rain for blockages and clear flow.
The Townsville community again assisted in reporting blocked drains as Council teams completed 67 drain clearing works, with the remainder cleared over the following two weeks.
Over the wet weather period from 13-18 January 2023 Council also responded to 55 after hour call outs for road and drain damage.
While the weather has cleared up recently Cr Hill still reminded locals to be prepared for the high-risk weather season by cleaning up around the yard, checking your current insurance policy, checking in with neighbours that may have just moved here and restocking household supplies and emergency kits.
