Council teams to keep city running during Christmas, New Year break
Date published: 20 December 2023
Dedicated community members are helping to keep Townsville running smoothly this festive season by working across areas like waste collection and customer service.
While most residents are ready to kick up their feet and looking forward to spending quality time with family and friends, Townsville City Council workers are continuing their important work in ensuring essential services are maintained throughout the city.
Mayor Jenny Hill said these quiet achievers were the cornerstone to making Townsville shine.
“Council provides a huge amount of services to the city, including public pools, our Animal Care and Adoption Centre, and our waste collection services. While most of us will be unwrapping presents on Christmas or ringing in 2024 in style, some of our Council employees will be hard at work,” Cr Hill said.
“Our waste facilities will be closed on Christmas Day, but our bin collections operate 365 days a year, so if your bin day is on Christmas, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day make sure your bins are pulled to the kerb and placed 50cm apart so our waste team members can do their job.
“Council Customer Service Centre at 143 Walker Street will close at 5pm, Friday 22 December 2023 and will reopen at 8am, Tuesday 2 January 2024. Remember our 13 48 10 number can be called 24/7 during this time if you have any urgent matters.
“Citylibraries Riverway will be closed on 24, 25 and 26 December and will be open for community members to visit from 10am to 2pm on 27, 28 and 29 December. The library will return to its regular opening hours on 2 January.
“Townsville Laboratory Services will be closed on Christmas and Boxing Day before resuming normal operating hours, providing high-quality testing to the community and neighbouring councils.
“Many of our services will be back for the public in the first week of January, including our galleries and TicketShop. Jump onto Council’s website to find out more.”
