The event will include the official turning on of the Christmas lights, as well as live entertainment, Santa photos, Christmas markets, and more.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the annual event was not to be missed.
“Christmas in the City is the first big event on Council’s Christmas calendar,” Cr Greaney said.
“This is a chance to get together with your loved ones and enjoy the sparkling lights turn on across the city, including on our city Christmas tree, and to have your first taste of tropical Christmas cheer.
“No matter what you’re into there will be something for you to enjoy, whether it’s free live entertainment, heading to Santa’s workshop to do some free arts and craft activities, strolling through the Christmas markets, or donning a set of reindeer antlers to join in the reindeer antler world record attempt.
“Council has invited Pop Up Food Trucks to provide delicious meals from local vendors.
“We’ve also invited the man of the hour along, so Santa Claus will be available to take photos with children from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at Santa’s Lane.”
Christmas in the City kicks off at 5.30pm at Flinders Square in Townsville’s city centre. For more information, head to our Christmas in the City page.
