Council call to action this White Ribbon Day

Townsville City Council is encouraging its employees and the wider community to stand up, speak out and help end family violence this White Ribbon Day.
Council is a proud White Ribbon Accredited Workplace and employees are encouraged to wear white for the day this Friday, November 18 to help start a conversation about domestic and family violence.
Council held a staff BBQ with guest speakers at their Dalrymple Road Depot on Wednesday before Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill hosted another barbecue event with special guests at Council’s Garbutt Operations Centre on Thursday.
Deputy Mayor Cr Mark Molachino will speak to Council staff 11am this Friday in the Mayoral Reception Forecourt (103 Walker Street, Townsville City).
“Council is dedicated to supporting employees and community members who are experiencing domestic and family violence,” Cr Molachino said.
“Domestic and family violence remains a huge issue across Australia and certainly here in Townsville. Council is standing up, speaking out and condemning all forms of domestic and family violence in our community.
“Domestic and family violence can affect anyone in our community regardless of age, gender, culture, or income.
“Council is committed to providing and promoting a workplace that encourages employees affected by domestic and family violence to seek support.”
Council is committed to the principles of White Ribbon Australia.
White Ribbon Australia delivers programs in schools, workplaces, and other areas of the community along with initiatives to engage men, advocacy, community support and training.
