All welcome at Council’s Recycling Centre open day
Date published: 10 November 2022
Council will open the doors of Townsville’s Materials Recovery Facility for special tours at their annual Recycling Centre open day this Saturday, November 12.
As part of National Recycling Week, which runs from November 7-13, members of the public can take a one-hour tour of Council’s Recycling Facility and find out what happens to your recycling.
Tickets are free but bookings are essential and limited so anyone interested is encouraged to click through to the event page here and book their spot. Tours will run between 8am to midday.
“Tours of our Material Recovery Facility have been popular every year and it’s a great chance for the public to get a behind-the-scenes look at the technology and machinery used at the centre,” Townsville Water and Waste Committee Chair Russ Cook said.
“Everyone can see how their excellent work using their recycling bins correctly is helping the community to reuse and recycle. They can also learn more about the dos and don’ts of recycling.”
Council has a range of other activities planned to help mark National Recycling Week and will be rewarding recycling champions with prizes.
There will be weekly online Recycle Right quizzes throughout November to test your recycling knowledge and each week two lucky entrants will win a $50 gift voucher.
Council is also holding a Golden Bin Challenge, where staff will randomly select five households each week in November and if they have been recycling correctly, they will win a $100 gift voucher.
