Less than a month left for The Percivals 2022 entries
Date published: 11 January 2022
Artists wanting to submit into The Percivals 2022 only have three weeks left to apply for the prestigious visual arts competition.
The Percival Portrait Painting Prize, the Percival Photographic Portrait Prize and the Percival Animal Portrait Prize winners will take home a share of $51,000 in prize money.
Acting Mayor and Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said there was limited time to finalise entries.
“Any artists who still want to be considered for one of The Percivals’ three prizes this year need to get their entry in by Friday February 4,” Cr Greaney said.
“Every two years, Townsville hosts some of the best new artworks across painted, photographic, and animal portraiture and we are just a few months away from being able to see this year’s selected works.
“Hundreds of artists from across the country and from overseas submit their works for prize consideration every two years, and I’m already looking forward to seeing the winners and selected works at this year’s The Percivals exhibition at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery.”
Last year’s winner of the $40,000 acquisitive Percival Portrait Painting Prize was North Queensland local Cutler Footway for his piece Jack Betteridge Costumed as an Elf: Don’t F. With Me, Fellas!.
Janet Tavener won the Percivals Photographic Portrait Prize for Ben and Saki and Elissa Sampson won the Percivals Animal Portrait Prize for Still.
Entries to The Percivals are open until 5pm on Friday 4 February 2022.
The Percivals exhibition will open on 22 April 2022. For more information, visit The Percivals.
