Free 2P parking to support business
Date published: 14 February 2022
Two-hour parking spots in the Townsville central business district will be free from tomorrow for the next 6 weeks in a bid to support inner city traders following Townsville’s COVID peak.
Mayor Jenny Hill said the initiative was approved at a special Council meeting today and would continue until 1 April.
“While we know that Townsville has not been as hard hit as other cities by the COVID endemic, we know that some businesses are still doing it tough,” Cr Hill said.
“We have listened to the feedback we have received from these businesses and from tomorrow we will make 2P parking free for an extended period up to and including 1 April.”
Two hour time limits will still be enforced during the period.
“Our CBD traders have been particularly impacted by the surge of COVID in our city and they have called for all of us to assist.
“I once again encourage all Townsville residents to support their local businesses as much as possible during these challenging times,” Cr Hill said.
“Local businesses are the heart and soul of our city, whether they’re eateries and boutiques, tourism experiences, business services, or any other number of business type.”
