Drawing practice dissected in new Perc Tucker exhibition
Date published: 11 February 2022
Visitors will be able to take a new perspective on drawing with the works of 10 artists from across the country making up the new Perc Tucker Regional Gallery exhibition DISINTEGRATION: Metadrawing and Expanded Drawing.
The collection of works from 10 Australian artists delves into the role of drawing in contemporary art.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said DISINTEGRATION was full of fresh ideas about the future of drawing.
“For most of us as kids, drawing is the first form of art we explore, but it’s not often used as a standalone medium in contemporary art as it was centuries ago. This exhibition looks at how drawing is still fundamental to contemporary art and explores the concept of a drawing renaissance,” Cr Greaney said.
“The works in this exhibition are spectacular and really guide viewers to question how far the discipline of drawing can be pushed.”
Cr Greaney said this exhibition would be turned into a virtual reality tour for people who wanted to experience it from the comfort of their own homes.
“Two years ago Council started looking at new ways to deliver exhibitions, and we found virtual tours are the most popular way to do that,” she said.
“Groundswell, which just opened at Pinnacles Gallery, has also been given a virtual tour. These tours let you move around the gallery space and see the art as it’s presented, which is perfect for anyone who is unwell, immunocompromised, out of town, or who just wants to see the art without making a trip.”
DISINTEGRATION: Metadrawing and Expanded Drawing opens to the public on 12 February 2022 and runs until 10 April 2022 at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery. Entry is free.
