Community to have a say on parks planning
Date published: 2 February 2022
Townsville City Council is calling on the community to have its say on the future planning for four parks and playgrounds across the city.
The Future Local Recreation Park Renewals consultation has opened to residents on what they would like to see at open spaces in Kirwan, Bohle Plains, Annandale and Oak Valley.
Council Planning and Development Committee chairperson Mark Molachino said local residents could use the Have Your Say platform to help guide Council on the renewal of Needletail Way Park, Lakeside Park, Weir Park and Oak Valley Park.
“Council maintains more than 320 parks and open space areas across the region, and they play a vital role to enhancing the lifestyle in our city,” Cr Molachino said.
“Every year we identify parks and open spaces in need of renewal to ensure they remain fit-for-purpose to the needs of the community.
“These four parks have been identified as needing renewal in the next few years and we want the community to have their say about what facilities are being used and what improvements users would like to see.
“Renewing park infrastructure ensures we continue to provide recreational opportunities for residents and visitors, encourage an active and healthy lifestyle throughout the city and increase inclusive community facilities within the suburbs.
“Feedback from the surveys will contribute to renewing the spaces and guiding decision making for future planning.
The Future Local Recreation Park Renewals Have Your Say surveys are open now and close on Monday 14 February 2022.
