Townsville City Galleries shows 1300 art pieces in 2022

More than 700 artists have been involved in Townsville City Galleries exhibitions in 2022, with more than 1300 pieces of art being showcased at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, Pinnacles Gallery and CityLibraries.
The figures span 25 exhibitions, and include professional artists, students, photographers, sculptors and more, with exhibitions being viewed by more than 15,000 visitors from January to November this year.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said Council’s galleries team had an impressive year.
“Council’s galleries team does remarkable work making world-class art accessible to locals and visitors for free in Townsville,” Cr Greaney said.
“Looking at the numbers for this year just goes to show how impactful our galleries work is. We are able to support artists through exhibitions, prizes, and selling works through the galleries.
“Just this year we’ve had 655 artists engaged at Perc Tucker Regional Gallery and Pinnacles Gallery exhibitions, along with 46 artists involved at the CityLibraries exhibitions.
"We welcomed a stunning 15,441 visitors through the doors at Perc Tucker, who all got to experience world-class art for free right here in Townsville.
“We’ve hung 1348 artworks this year, including 250 in The Percivals, 127 in the Percival Portrait Painting Prize, 93 in the Percival Photographic Portrait Prize and 52 in the Percival Animal Portrait Prize, as well as 92 in the North Queensland Ceramic Awards.
“Through the year we’ve hosted 25 school holiday workshops, drawing in 1333 attendees, and we’ve hosted eight artist talks.
“Council is focused on growing Townsville into a sustainable destination that participates in the arts, and it’s clear by looking at the numbers that our city has a voracious appetite for visual arts.
“We’re now looking forward to the Christmas period with our two exhibitions Julie Fragar: Biograph and City of Townsville Art Collection: Recent Acquisitions opening this week.”
