Council approves development application on The Strand

A development application to build a new boutique hotel at 68 and 69 The Strand has been approved by Townsville City Council.

The proposal assessment was conducted by Council’s planning officers under the Townsville City Plan and recommended for approval with 30 conditions. Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ralston adopted the planning officer’s recommendation and has approved the development.

During the public notification period 78 submissions were received with 69 supporting the development.

The Townsville City Plan’s performance-based criteria sets out the planning requirements to consider applications for Townsville’s growth and development including additional criteria for proposed developments higher than 5 storeys with planning officers’ assessment of this 7-storey development meeting the additional criteria.

The development will deliver:

  • 80 hotel rooms, a restaurant and function centre
  • 120 construction jobs
  • 100 on-going jobs
