Call for local performers to audition for Carols by Candlelight
Date published: 2 August 2022
It may still be a few months until the man in the big red suit comes to visit North Queensland, but Townsville City Council has already opened auditions for this year’s Carols by Candlelight.
Council has called on any locals looking to perform a solo act, or be part of an ensemble, to apply before 14 August.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said it was the perfect opportunity for local performers to help spread the Christmas spirit in front of thousands of people.
“Last year’s event attracted more than 15,000 people and was one of the biggest Carols by Candlelight the city has seen,” Cr Greaney said.
“While Christmas is five months away, these events involve an enormous amount of coordination and planning so we have to start organising for the much-loved family event now.
“We are encouraging singers from all genres and backgrounds to audition as we look to make this year’s Carols bigger and better again.
“We are also calling out to dance groups and schools who would like to participate in the preshow component of Carols.”
To apply, it is as simple as filling out the online form and returning it before the closing date.
Applications for auditions for vocalists and to be part of the choir for the main show close on Sunday, 14 August.
Applications for schools and dance groups to be part of the preshow entertainment close on Monday, 4 October.
