First weekend of massive double-header set to kick off

Rock out to Killing Heidi at their free concert as part of Townsville Eats from 4pm this Saturday.
The event is part one of Townsville’s blockbuster weekends, falling in line with the Laurie Spina Shield and Toyota Cowboys v Roosters matches at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
Killing Heidi will take the main stage at Central Park this Saturday at 8:30pm after the Cowboys v Roosters game, with support from local musician Isabelle Reynaud’s act Isadoré, The Funny Jims and Lost Crowd.
Reynaud said it was “incredible” to be able to support Killing Heidi.
“This is how you form real connections through performing live where people can feel your energy,” she said.
“I think it’s one thing to put the music out online and on YouTube and Spotify but when you’re actually in front of people and you can tell stories between your songs it’s just a different kind of connection.
“It’s super exciting. I’m riding that high, it’s awesome. I can’t wait.”
Acting Mayor Mark Molachino said the weekend was going to be a great night out for groups of friends and for families.
“During the Easter school holidays, you’re always looking for ways to keep the family entertained, so it makes sense to make the most of the free Townsville Eats event and the world-class football just next door at Queensland Country Bank Stadium,” Cr Molachino said.
“Townsville has a reputation as the arts and culture capital of Northern Australia and this goes to prove it – we have a free concert with ARIA Award-winning band Killing Heidi as well as homegrown acts, and we’ll have a huge selection of food options, roving entertainment and amusements. There really will be something for everyone.
“If you haven’t invited your friends and family from across the region to Townsville yet, now’s the time to get on the phone and make sure they don’t miss out on a cracker Saturday out.”
North Queensland Toyota Cowboys CEO Jeff Reibel said Saturday’s football feast, combined with Townsville Eats, will create a huge buzz in the CBD and at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
“Coming off the back of a win in the XXXX Derby against the Broncos, and with everything happening around the precinct on game day, we’re looking forward to packing out Queensland Country Bank Stadium and creating a fortress-like atmosphere,” he said.
“We’re encouraging everyone to grab a ticket and get to Queensland Country Bank Stadium early to cheer on Queensland’s next generation of rugby league players in the Laurie Spina Shield, followed by the North Queensland Toyota Gold Stars and the big game against the Roosters at 6:35pm.
“With a massive after-party next door at Central Park featuring world-class, homegrown Aussie talent, this weekend presents a wonderful opportunity for locals and visitors to support Townsville businesses and events.”
