TAFE emerging artists collaborate for new Pinnacles Gallery exhibition

The future of Townsville’s emerging artists will be explored in the new exhibition 21 at Pinnacles Gallery at the Riverway Arts Centre when it opens on Friday 29 October.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said TAFE students always pushed the envelope in their annual exhibitions.
“It’s always fascinating to visit TAFE’s exhibitions at Pinnacles because these emerging artists aren’t afraid to experiment, which always makes for an interesting and engaging exhibition,” Cr Greaney said.
“I’m glad that Council has an ongoing relationship with TAFE Queensland so we’re able to provide a space for collaborative exhibitions like this one.
“It’s important for emerging artists to know that there is a future for their careers in Townsville, and having their work shown at one of the city’s premier galleries is a great way to show these up-and-coming artists that their work can be supported in our city.”
Tenielle Edmondson is an emerging artist, teacher and art worker who is very passionate about the visual arts community in Townsville. Ms Edmondson is one of six TAFE Queensland students participating in the exhibition.
“21 is a showcase of our favourite pieces that we’ve made during our training at TAFE Queensland this year,” she said.
“You will find different interpretations of the topics we covered across drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and digital mediums.
“We are very lucky to have the support of TAFE Queensland and the Townsville City Council to secure this gallery space.”
Cr Greaney said the exhibition was being added to a long list of high calibre works that had been shown in Pinnacles Gallery since it reopened in 2020.
“About this time last year, we were lucky to reopen Pinnacles Gallery to the public with another TAFE exhibition called MAKE,” she said.
“Pinnacles Gallery sits inside the Riverway Arts Centre and was damaged during the 2019 monsoon, but thankfully the gallery has now had almost a full year back up and running.
“Since we reopened, we’ve hosted Patricia Piccinini’s Curious Affection on Tour, Graphic Tendencies: Works from the City of Townsville Art Collection, and most recently the cross-culture collaboration In Cahoots.
“21 will follow in some big footsteps when it launches on Friday night.”
21 runs from this Friday until 20 November. For more information on Pinnacles Gallery and the exhibition opening, head to Pinnacles Gallery.
