New website to bring Townsville’s artists together

Arts practitioners across Townsville now have access to a brand new website developed by Townsville City Council to help boost artistic collaboration across the city.

Arts Network Townsville has been developed in partnership with Arts Queensland through the local Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) as well as with the Community Information Centre and the Townsville arts community.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said the aim of the new web portal was to encourage collective resourcing, collaboration, skills development and entrepreneurship.

“Arts Network Townsville will help existing and emerging arts workers expand their capacity and their arts practice, which will help strengthen their work and their career prospects here in Townsville,” Cr Greaney said.

“It will also help individual artists and artistic groups collaborate with each other as they share resources and build an inclusive arts community across Townsville.”

Cr Greaney said Council was committed to fostering artistic talent across the city.

“Our local artists are extremely talented and are increasingly embracing the idea that you don’t have to leave Townsville to be a full-time artist,” she said.

“Council recognises that in order for local artists to succeed here in Townsville, they need a platform that will allow them to take a holistic approach to collaborate and show their work across our city.

“I’m very pleased with the new Arts Network Townsville and I’m sure artists and arts groups across the city will take full advantage of the new platform.”

The website is hosted by Townsville City Council in collaboration with the Community Information Centre (CIC), which administers the artist registry and venue registry.
