With 372 parks, 203 playgrounds, 21 off-leash parks and 3 world-class botanic gardens, Parks Week is the perfect opportunity to explore Townsville and enjoy our green spaces.
Parks Week is from March 6 until March 14 and provides communities the opportunity to reflect on the positive influence parks have in creating a liveable city.
Infrastructure Committee chairperson Kurt Rehbein said that visiting parks and open spaces is a good way to relieve stress.
“Studies have shown that visiting green spaces and being exposed to nature can reduce psychological stress and can improve our moods,” Cr Rehbein said.
“In Townsville we have 372 parks, 203 playgrounds, 21 off-leash parks and 3 world-class botanical gardens which is perfect in a city that – despite recent weather – enjoys 300 days of sunshine a year.
“I’d like to thank our dedicated staff who work hard day in and out to maintain and manage such an extensive area of Townsville for the enjoyment of everyone who lives and visits our city.
“This Parks Week, I’m encouraging residents to visit their local parks, playgrounds and gardens and enjoy the beautiful green spaces we have available to us.”
