Competition winners to celebrate Neighbour Day this Sunday

Neighbour Day parties from Woodstock to Mount Low have just been made a little more fun with 20 residents winning Townsville City Council’s Neighbour Day competition.
This year’s Neighbour Day theme is “every day is neighbour day” and Council has given 20 lucky winners $200 towards celebrating this Sunday.
Nelly Bay local Jessica Hay said she was excited to be able to have a ball with the people who live in her neck of the woods.
“The suburb where I live is mostly just elderly retired people along with middle aged nurturers who help these people out with daily life, it is a really tight knit community,” she said.
“We share utes, check on the elderly, share garden produce and seedlings and much more.
“Lately we have had a lot of holiday homes sell and had people move up from down south and this will be a wonderful opportunity to get to know the new faces and connect with each other.
“I will be spending the money at our new locally-owned bakery Otto's and feel so happy I can support them at this time without a lot of tourism or overseas visitors.”
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said she was excited to see how neighbours across Townsville would celebrate this weekend.
“We’re lucky here in Townsville to have a city made up of great neighbourhoods that are filled with great people,” Cr Greaney said.
“Neighbour Day is a chance to rekindle old friendships, form new bonds, and celebrate the diversity of our neighbourhoods this Sunday.”
