Intersection upgrade for Angus Avenue underway

Townsville City Council is upgrading the intersection at Angus Avenue and the Dalrymple Service Road to improve safety for road users in the area.
The intersection upgrade will include the construction of a roundabout and the installation of new streetlights and has received $735,000 in funding under the Australian Government’s Black Spot program.
Infrastructure Services Committee chairperson Kurt Rehbein said the upgrades would address safety concerns for residents travelling along Angus Avenue.
“There are hundreds of vehicles and pedestrians that travel along Angus Avenue each day,” Cr Rehbein said.
“It is a busy road and there have been a few major accidents requiring medical treatment, which is why we’ve applied for Black Spot funding to upgrade the intersection.
“Council staff will be constructing a new roundabout at the intersection and installing lights to ensure that everyone travelling in the area, can do so safely.”
Federal Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson OAM MP said it was good to see work underway.
“The Black Spot Funding program is all about ensuring people who leave in the morning arrive home safely at night,” Mr Thompson said.
“This intersection has been identified as having a high number of crashes so I’m pleased we’ve been able to provide this federal funding for a locally-led solution to improve safety.”
Cr Rehbein urged residents to take care when travelling in the area as the works get underway.
“The works have begun, and we’re expecting the project to be completed around mid-August,” he said.
“We ask that residents drive to the traffic conditions and obey all road signage and I thank them for their patience while our staff complete this project.”
