Fan Zone takes over Central Park for Rugby Sevens

Rugby Sevens fans can enjoy Central Park’s first covered surround-sound cinema and entertainment from Friday to Sunday as Townsville City Council transforms the park into a Fan Zone.
The Fan Zone will be the perfect place to spend the half-time Rugby Sevens break, with free entertainment just steps from Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said people would have the opportunity to experience a little Pacific culture, fantastic live entertainment, and movie screenings.
“On Friday and Sunday we’ll have the talented YWAM Performing Arts and Celebration team performing live music from 3.30pm, starting with the YWAM drummers and followed by the Melanesian Pride band. They will also be holding Moana song and dance performance, which will be a hit with the kids, before our screening of Moana,” Cr Greaney said.
“On both days we’ll have an intermission at 5.30pm with the amazing Fijian dance troupe before part two of Moana plays on the big screen.”
Cr Greaney said Saturday would include live music from 3.45pm.
“From 4.30pm we’ll screen Invictus, Clint Eastwood’s film about South Africa around the time of the 1995 Rugby World Cup. This is a must-see movie for diehard rugby fans,” she said.
“On all three days our Fan Zone will include pop-up activations, food trucks, popcorn, free-face painting and more, so make sure you head down to check it out in between games.”
