Community consultation on new Riverway Library open now

Townsville residents are invited to have their say on the new Riverway Library.
Townsville City Council announced $5.5 million in the 2021/22 Budget to relocate the Thuringowa Library into the Riverway Arts Precinct.
Mayor Jenny Hill said Council was eager to hear from residents about how they would like the space to look and feel.
“Our libraries are important and popular spaces that we know the community are very passionate about, which is why we want input into the design of the new library,” Cr Hill said.
“The survey that residents take will give us information about the preferred usage of the library and what services should be located and offered in the space.
“I’d encourage any residents that frequent the Thuringowa Library and the Riverway Precinct to go to Have Your Say Townsville and complete the survey, which will be open until 23 July.”
Cr Hill said the relocation would be an important step to revitalising the Riverway Precinct with even more offerings for families, young people, and book lovers.
“Riverway is the heart of the Thuringowa community, and we need to explore ways to keep it thriving for benefit of our residents,” she said.
“It made sense for us to relocate the Thuringowa Library into the Council-owned space which will save money on rent for the current location, but it also allows us to expand our offerings through 24-hour access and digital makerspaces.
“I’m very excited about the future of Riverway Library and we’re hopeful the community will help us make this a space that everyone will love and enjoy.”
The Riverway Library Have Your Say is open now and will close on 23 July.
